The original The Velox is one of the newest high-sea escort tugs of the Østensjø shipping company in Norway. The collaboration with Robert Allan Ltd., Astilleros Gondan, and Voith Turbo Schneider Propulsion has produced one of the most powerful tugboats, with a Voith-Schneider propeller. Despite its size of 37m, the ship has a variety of equipment for salvage, towing, and escort work as well as firefighting and rescue operations. The newly developed turbofin from Voith provides pulling power of 150t in escort service and was installed for the first time in the Velox. The crew cabins are equipped with bath, TV, and with computers hooked up to the onboard network.
The model
The VELOX was designed by Robert Allan Ltd,of Vancouver, Canada.
The model is an approached replica of the original and was created in collaboration with Voith Turbo Schneider Propulsion Heidenheim, the Østensjø Rederi AS, Norway, Robert Allan Ltd. Canada, and Astilleros Gondan Spain.
The prototype aroused great interest among shippers at international shipbuilding trade fairs.
Tests and christening of the model took place in the test basin at Voith Turbo Schneider Propulsion in Heidenheim.
The lines of the model are adapted to Graupner Voith Schneider Propeller.
They are not a faithful or accurate copy of the VELOX lines.

RC functions
Continuously variable speed control is provided by changing the positioning of the propeller blades while maintaining constant rpms.
Turning in place, forward/reverse, and lateral thrust (traversing) are also made possible by adjustment of the propeller blades.
