S.A.R. Kit/ Graupner Upgrade for NH-90
This Build-up for this Graupner upgrade will go over some of the points about adding this
kit to an existing model and certainly be applied to any kit in progress. ( On my model I am
only adding the intake scoops and aux fuel tanks... the F.L.I.R. system, tail parts and other items
could certainly be added but my model is NOT painted so I chose to leave them off for now.)
......
On this model (our turbine NH-90) removal of the upper cowl shows us how things are doing and is a good time
to do a maintenance check. The first part is the intake scoops which are simply cut out of thier sheet and CA glued
in place (NO kicker! ). Now this model has NEVER been painted, what you see here is the factory gelcoat finish
so much care must be taken to sand only the areas where the scoop will touch the skin. I left the screens in place
from before and only had to paint the ABS scoops with some Krylon Fusion white paint to match... not a bad
match to the factory finish!

......
I like using the Krylon Fusion in some cases as it requires no prep to paint, just clean the part and spray.
Here are the parts for the drop fuel tanks. You can make then deployable if you wish, but I chose not to in order
to keep things simple since I will never probably use this feature. Tanks are hollow molded GRP fiberglass.

......
The next step is sand and CA glue this bushings to each of the tank mounts (DO NOT use kicker on any of the
ABS parts!).Then sand and install the small brass tubes just about flush in the mount points.

......
I added some 3/4 oz cloth the inside of the bushing area and glued the tubes in place also using the
cloth and thin CA .

......
Now, here is why I don't throw scraps away... I added some scrap ABS sheet from the kit to fully form
the tank mounts and now they do not flex and far less likely to crack and fatigue. Thin CA was used to fuse
the parts together (again- NO kicker!).
