Once you have the proper mainshaft
alingment, you can final glue up everything into place. It is best to add
these holes to inside of rails for enhanced adhesion
to the main rails.
......
Final glue up shown (use wax paper to keep wood
spreaders-made from scrap- from sticking). Back to the main
retracts now that most of the wood parts in the
cabin are secured in thier final positions. We open up the hole
in the main retract bulkhead to hold bulkhead
22 into place. This #22 floats in the main bulkhead until we find
the exact position for the struts in relation
to everything, then it is also glued into place.
......
Gear is in up position here, next we add
the center bulkhead which divides the two compartments and then add the
folding arm and its attachments. More on the
folding arms later (which are spring loaded).
Here you can see the front gear doors added with
opening rails added made from scrap strips.
.....
Tin rub pads ensure the fork does not hang up
when opening or closing. A simple elastic band attaches
to gear door and then to hook below in the wood
to spring them shut when the gear is retracted. This is one way
of doing the gear doors. Also you can add sub-micro
servos with small pushrods going into ABS tubes on the
doors to open and close the doors. These can
be sequenced with the main gear doors for a nice effect.
Also below you can see the dividing bulkhead
in the rear retract bay and forward you can see the fuel tank floors
added which mount the fuel tanks dead center
of the mainshaft.
