Product information:
The AGUSTA A119 »KOALA« is a single-turbine
helicopter designed for a wide range of tasks. It is largely based on
the
familiar twin-engined A109, but is fitted with only one Pratt & Whitney
PT6B-37A turbine, with a take-off power of 1002 BHP
and a continuous output of 872 BHP, while as a workhorse helicopter it
features a robust skid landing gear. In the EMS
(air rescue) helicopter version the cabin provides space for two stretchers.
The prototype on which our model is based is an
Australian rescue helicopter belonging to its operator, »CareFlight«,
which is stationed in Orange, New South Wales. This
machine was the first EMS version of the »KOALA«. The model
is drawn up to a scale of 5.8:1 and features a rotor diameter
of 186 cm when fitted with the scale four-blade rotor head. The machine
is designed to accommodate the proven
GRAUPNER/JetCat helicopter mechanics; in this version the turbine exhaust
exits the right-hand side of the fuselage via a
short, angled duct. Alternatively the fuselage can be fitted with GRAUPNER/Heim
UNI-MECHANICS 2000. The white-
pigmented GRP fuselage is supplied with most of the window openings and
other apertures pre-cut. Excellent access to the
mechanics and internal fittings is granted by the large, divided upper
fairing and the side doors, which are completely removable;
the doors conceal the fueltank and gas tank filler fittings for the engine
starting procedure. The mechanics complete with servos
and auxiliary equipment are installed in the fuselage from above as a
single unit, and connected to it by means of two profiled
aluminium rails. The tail rotor drive system is based on a 2 mm Ø
spring steel shaft, supported in Teflon bushes in a 10 mm Ø
aluminium tube. The shaft is connected to the tail rotor gearbox by means
of the coupling sleeve (supplied); the tail rotor
gearbox and drive shaft therefore form a single unit which can be withdrawn
to the rear out of the fuselage. The tail rotor control
linkage is based on a CFRP pushrod. Like the main fuselage, the upper
fuselage fairing, the tail cone, the horizontal stabiliser
panels and the side doors are moulded in GRP, and feature a high-quality
gloss white surface finish. If the self-adhesive decals
are used, there is no need to paint the model overall. The sliding doors
fit in integral recesses moulded into the fuselage. The
vacuum-moulded windows feature recessed flanges, and are designed to be
glued in the machined openings in the fuselage
shell from the inside. This process may require slight trimming of the
pre-cut openings, but the result is a model with a highly
impressive scale appearance. Kit contents Building instructions in German,
English and French. Multi-part fuselage moulded
using epoxy / glass technology, with a white-pigmented, high-gloss surface
and most openings machined to shape, skid landing
gear, wooden parts, tinted, vacuum-moulded glazing panels, tail rotor
shaft with bearings and connecting sleeve, tail rotor
control pushrod, fueltank, aluminium mechanics mounting, vacuum-moulded
interior cockpit fittings, small items.
